Corsets and Cuties: #Celebrate

Corsets and Cuties made their Fringe debut in 2014. Since then, the shows keep selling out. I first sketched them that year, and I have been following their entertaining antics ever since. The Fringe show opens with the jingle song of Premier Couples’ Superstore. What followed was a fun night of burlesque, mixed with singing prowess and comedy. There was some unexpected news that their aerialist had fallen recently at the pirate dinner theatre, so he would not be performing.

Veronica Paige did a hilarious and sensual routine in which she essentially made love to a delicious handful of carbs as she stripped, a Hawaiian Sweet Roll I believe. Her Rubenesque might not fit into many pencil thin fashions, but she put those thin girls to shame and looked beautiful. Black gloves and a flowing semi transparent robe made for some fine old-school burlesque.

Crumbcake Cutie did a hilarious routine in which she was baking a cake. Orlando Sentinel theater reporter Matt Palm was in  the audience, seated toward the back away from the crowd. Crumbcake strutted up to him once she had stripped down, and shook her bootie right in his face. He realized he was now the center of attention and gave her a playful pat on the butt, as it seemed she would not go away until he did.

Barbie Rhinestone gave a high energy routine in her polka dot dress. She radiated smiles. Nicki Jay performed to a Lady Ga Ga song and she moved with so much energy that I had to just stop for a bit and watch. I will figure out how to get that level of energy into a sketch someday. Pam seated next to me always jokes, “I always know when Nicki Jay is performing, because your brush stops moving and you just stare.”

Corsets and Cuties offered an amazing night of Burlesque. You never know what will happen. Super fun with a big side of sexy.

Corsets and Cuties – Harlots at Fringe

The opening number alone makes this show worth the price of admission. The entire cast danced on stage in lavish Victorian attire as if at a party for Marie Antoinette. I was upset that number was over so fast. I only had the time to catch the MC, Lady Jaimz. But the cast gyrated and dances suggestively and the Corsets and Cuties were in their true top form. This burlesque company combines humor with their routines in unique and unexpected ways. Barbie Rhinestone started her routine off with sock puppets, but this was no kids fringe show.

Nicki Jax has a Cat Woman like way of moving that is fun to attempt to draw. My favorite routine for the night was set to the song, This is Me, written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Members of the cast wore t shirts that carried labels set by bullies. Nicki’s shirt had the unlikely title of UGLY. NERD, CUNT, BITCH, the words had little meaning as they sang their anthem. I had never heard the song before and I was moved. Now I need to see the film, The Greatest Showman. All of these men and woman are great showmen. they were born to sing dance and entertain. Granted there was some lip syncing but there are also some very strong voices in the cast.

Harlots strip away the surface fashions and bear all with humor and heart.

This Fringe show is in the black  venue which is in The Venue, 511 Virginia Dr, Orlando, FL 32803. Tickets are $12 along with a Fringe button which is need to get into any Fringe show.

Corsets and Cuties at the Venue.

I went to sketch a dress rehearsal of Corsets and Cuties Fan-Frickin’-Tastic February Show! along with Pam Schwartz and her sister Jenny form Iowa. We arrived at the Venue (511 Virginia Dr, Orlando, FL 32803) and walked under the tree of light. There was a crowd in the front bar at the venue, so for a moment I thought there might be a show rather than the rehearsal.

The entire cast performed in the opening number which was rehearsed several times. It was set to Pat Benatar‘s “Love is a Battlefield.” The  opening lyrics however rang true to the Orlando rally cry after the Pulse Nightclub tragedy. Barbie Rhinestone rose up from behind the back stage wall and lip synced “We are Strong!“In that moment it felt like a rally cry in the face of recovering from tragedy.

The show is already sold out, so if you didn’t get your tickets you will miss this hilarious show. The Divine J-9 sang a song shortly after Teddy had finished an aerial silks act. He tried to introduce Divine to the silks with absolutely hilarious results. She wedged herself into the fabric swing with her arms over the fabric and her breasts crushed under the weight. He lifted her legs and flew her around the stage. She was laughing so loud that she couldn’t sing. I was laughing so loud, I couldn’t sketch.

Jax N. Augh performed a strip lease wearing bubble wrap. He snapped the bubbles with attitude and emerged from the wrap in a muscle print jump suit. Debbie Dulce performed a classic striptease in white and worked the room and rubbed against me leaving behind some glitter that had to be answered for later.

The cast is always fun and frivolous. The show is not for the faint at heart, but for those with a sense of humor and adventure. There was an intermission half way though the show. There is a full bar available in the front of the Venue for those wishing to imbibe, and the Cuties are always more friendly to those with tips. Everyone has a chance to win fun door prizes from our fab sponsor
Premier Couple’s Superstore.

Corsets and Cuties Halloween Burlesque

Corsets and Cuties will be performing a Halloween Burlesque show at Gods and Monsters, 5250 International Drive; Suite E8, Orlando, Florida, on

Friday, October 23 at 10:00pm.

The She-Devils of Corsets and Cuties dare you to step out of your comfort zone and feast your eyes on the flesh of the damned.

If you have seen the Cuties perform before, you know to expect the
unexpected. However, the voluptuous beauties are bringing a touch of
the macabre to the stage. Demons, Zombies, and Vampires will titillate
your fancy. But be careful. You may leave your heart behind.

This sketch is from a Corsets and Cuties performance at a BASE Orlando body painting showcase.

In this performance, Barbie Rhinestone shyly took to the stage and sat in the chair. She was in trench coat and she seemed surprised to be surrounded by an audience. Babs shouted from the crowd, “You go girl!  The music kicked in and Barbie made a shy half hearted attempt at shaking her shoulders. The crowds wild, encouragement got her to stand up and use her hips a bit. Then garments were discarded with a sensual flourish while her bright pink hair whipped free. Corsets and Cuties performances are always outlandish and hilarious.
