COVID Trailer

I made a quick 26 second trailer for the COVID short. I was inspired to create this version after watching the trailer for Dr. Strangelove. I am now starting to submit the short to film festivals. I decided to take the short off of youTube since I was told it reduces the chances of having the film accepted in festivals. I think the short can be seen on FilmFreeway which is the site used to submit to festivals. If the Film Freeway link doesn’t lead to the film, I am hoping someone will let me know. I can see it since it is my home page but I never tried to get to the page from another computer.

Anyway, all this festival business is new to me so I am learning as I go. Film maker and storyteller, Jon Busdecker has offered to do a more advanced trailer and we are just getting started on that version which might be 30 to 60 seconds long. Jon asked me to research trailers I liked, and that research lead me to creating this short trailer as a place holder with my film festival submissions.

Voice over might be added.  Phantasmagoria founder and actor and director John DiDonna has offered to do the voice over work. He commands the stage with his Phantasmagoria troupe, and I sketched several performances where he performed as the quintessential Scrooge. I have no doubt his voice would be perfect for the COVID trailer.  Voice over might be used on the full trailer.

My 4 minute COVID film itself is almost shorter than most feature film trailers. It is hard to decide how short a short should be for a short.

The Collective

The Collective was launched in early 2017. The idea was to bring
together Central Florida’s nonprofit community and empower the region’s
change leaders. As a new organization big
strides were made in 2017.  The Collective, approved nearly 400 members, hosted 10 gatherings, launched a website and social media accounts, worked with several new organizations, including Opera Del Sol and Immerse, held monthly “Breakfast Breakout Sessions” at the Citrus Club and hosted the inaugural Change Everything Awards.

Each month, The Collective hosts several events and training
opportunities with the goal of sharing ideas, learning from proven
social innovators and creating a community of like-minded passionate
advocates. Those events include a membership-wide meeting, after-work
networking, and a breakfast learning session. This meeting in July was held at the Sanctuary, which has an open community room on the second floor.

Jon Busdeker introduced Mayor Buddy Dyer. The Mayor pointed out that he was so successful because he surrounded himself with truly talented people and he trusts them to do their best. Ideas are shared and nourished. It is rare to hear a politician talking about collaboration in a non-partisan way. It is a simple formula that works here in Orlando. “My hope is the history books will reflect that the Dyer administration
asked citizens to imagine a great city and created just that,” he said. His administration has tackled some big and costly construction projects which have brought Orlando a new Amway Arena and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Slowly, Orlando is growing up to possibly one day become a world class city rather than a suburb just north of the theme parks.

The Collective presented the Opera Del Sol launch party.

The Collective presented Orlando’s most exciting new performing arts concept, Opera del Sol at the Citrus Club
(255 S Orange Ave, Ste 1800, Orlando, Florida 32801) on August 7, 2017. The evening was hosted by Andrae Bailey and Jon Busdeker of The Collective. That night also happened to be the birthday of  Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. At the party, I focused my attention on sketching the string quartet.

The
mission of Opera del Sol, in partnership with the
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, is to change the way audiences experience opera and
performance art by creating curated, conceptual productions in
unexpected places. They are creating new ways to experience
opera, musical theatre, and visual arts, opting out of traditional
venues, and instead creating alluring productions in unique and intimate
settings. They will combine the visual and performance arts with cleverly
curated foods and beverages to provide those
unexpected thrills.

Founder Nichole Dupre was there to introduce the inaugural season. With venues in both Orlando and Brevard
County, Opera del Sol will open this Fall with
Opera Wars,
an original production set in outer space, and close with
the thrilling musical theatre classic, Sweeney Todd.

Keeping with their cross-arts mission, the company will also feature a curated art
show with local artist Peterson Guerrier, and will also perform
Bon Appetit, a one woman opera based on a well known Julia Child
broadcast, accompanied with a five-course dinner presented by Publix.

 The countdown for Opera del Sol presents Opera Wars in Orlando
begins. Join the cast at The Abbey Friday November 24th and Saturday
