Orlando Science Center will host the 10th annual Neanderthal Ball on Saturday, November 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to benefit its mission to inspire science learning for life. This year marks the final Neanderthal Ball with the theme of “Celebrate our Evolution.” Guests are invited to celebrate 10 years of Neanderthal Ball and what it has helped achieve for Orlando Science Center.

“The success of Neanderthal Ball along with our other fundraising efforts over the past decade has helped the Science Center have an incredible impact on this region,” said Science Center President and CEO JoAnn Newman. “A STEM preschool, new exhibits, expanded teacher training and national partnerships have all been part of our evolution as a stronger community partner. Neanderthal Ball is a time to celebrate our growth as we prepare for a new gala that will help lead us into the future.”

The prehistoric-themed event, located in the Science Center’s DinoDigs exhibit, includes a night of dancing, dining, and a silent auction. The auction will feature over 75 unique packages, including offerings from the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Kennedy Space Center, unique experiences, and local restaurant packages. A diamond necklace and earring suite from Mayor’s Jewelers—valued at $5,000—is also set to be raffled off.

During the event, guests will dance the evening away with live music from the local band, Running with Scissors, and enjoy gourmet creations from Puff ‘N Stuff Event Catering. Neanderthal Ball will fuel the celebration with drinks provided by Tito’s Vodka, a wine bar, and artesian beers provided by Orlando Brewing Company.

To get everyone in the spirit, guests are encouraged to showcase pops of print or wild animal patterns. Harriet Lake, one of Central Florida’s leading philanthropists, sponsors the Caveman Couture Contest with prizes awarded to those with the most chic “caveman couture.

Proceeds from Neanderthal Ball will help fund educational programs at Orlando Science Center, plus support opportunities for youth and families to experience the Science Center regardless of income or educational background.

bar, dance club, and nightclub in Orlando, Florida, founded in 2004 by
Barbara Poma and Ron Legler. On June 12, 2016,
the club gained international attention as it was the scene of the
deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history, and the
deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since the events of September
11, 2001. 49 people were killed and 53 were injured.
We will
look for stories to document in our sketchbooks, sharing three hours of
inspiration with people with the same passion for drawing. No previous
experience in sketching is required. Invite friends or family members,
whoever likes to sketch from direct observation.
This
gathering does not include onsite instructions and it is free of charge
to all participants. Thor, of Analog Artist Digital World, will be
hosting this sketch outing.
After we are done sketching we
will head across the street to Einstein Brothers Begals (1901 S Orange
Ave, Orlando, FL) to get a drink and or bite, and share our sketches.
Looking forward to seeing you,
The Orlando Urban Sketchers team

Noon to 2pm Free but get some food. Florida Gospel Jam. Fish on Fire 7937 Daetwyler Drive Belle Isle FL. Every 2nd and 4th Sunday.

3pm to 8pm Free. August Art Critique. The Barefoot Spa 801 Virginia Dr, Orlando, Florida 32803. It doesn’t matter what kind of art you do, we have had oil painters, papermakers, glass artsts, found object sculptors, video artists, watercolor painters, ceramicists, artists who draw and collage, jewelry artists, printmakers, etc. It also doesn’t matter how much experience you have. We have included artists who have never shown and artists who are nationally recognized competition winners. The point is to get people from many different styles, backgrounds, and experience levels together to talk about everyones’ work!
This is a group of artists talking as peers. The discussions have included pricing, finding materials, technique, framing, exhibition opportunities, and, yes, traditional critique. We are trying to mix different artists and get them talking about art! We will be looking at everyone’s art individually, and talk about it for about 10 minutes. I know it is short, but the idea is not only to get other people to talk about your art, but to spend the evening talking about everyone’s art!
We are looking for brand new art. By “brand new”, I mean the newest art that you have. And if you bring more than one, please make them all be part of a series. Or if they aren’t part of a series, make sure that you are prepared to talk about the art as a group.
